Week 15 Story: Virupa's Transformation

Image
She stared at the mirror in shock. The face that looked back at her looked nothing like the one she had seen her whole life. She ran her fingers through her beautiful hair and felt a tear run down her flawless cheeks. Throughout all her life, she was ridiculed for her appearance. All the riches that had surrounded her weren’t enough to shield her from the sting of the words spat at her. On this night, she had hoped to end the pain once in for all. She looked down at the rope she had thought would bring her peace. In a way it did, but not how she thought it would. The man had left as quickly as he arrived. He said nothing but left her with a sense of awe as he sent forth divine magic into her body. The wounds along her neck were healed and the fire in her heart was reignited. Virupa looked around at the room she had been forced to stay in for so long. She thought on all the hateful words her husband said to her during their marriage. The look on his face when he saw her for the...

Week 12 Storytelling: Words Heeded

Image
**PORTFOLIO UPDATE: https://sites.google.com/view/dawsonpleasant/words-heeded Vashi and Targo were brothers born to a great king. The king had kept their herd safe for years and years under his watchful eye. This world carried many dangers for their kind and if they weren’t careful, death would find them in the blink of an eye. When the cold winds started to fade away and the suns warmth once again covered the land, the king knew it was time. Their herd had a powerful desire for the crops that the humans grew each year. Inevitably, some of the foolish deer in their herd would wander into their fields and get caught by the traps that the humans set for them. After the king’s own brother was lost to the humans, he decided to enact a plan to save the lives of his herd. When the crops started to become ripe, the king would split the herd into thirds. Each herd would go far away from the human settlements and stay there until the humans had finished their work with their crop...

Week 5 Storytelling: Thataka's Retribution

Image
Current Porfolio Link: https://sites.google.com/view/dawsonpleasant/thatakas-retribution We have walked in this desolate place for days. The sage has told us of our mission. He has told of us the demon that stalks this land. He pointed out places that used to be home to so much beauty. I couldn’t picture it though. This hellish landscape is devoid of anything that would resemble life. This is our first time away from home. My brother and I have accompanied this sage at the behest of our father. He put on a strong act for us when we left, but I could see the fear in his eyes. Two of his four beloved sons went off to face a terrible foe. I can understand where he’s coming from. Yet he has not seen Rama in action as I have. When he wields his mighty bow, even the mountains themselves seem to tremble in fear. Though I doubt the mountains would ever do anything to cross my brother. Not like this demon has. Rama has been silent for some time. I’ve seen him take in eve...

Week 3 Story: A Father's Heartbreak

Image
I could feel it the second the words left her mouth. My time is coming to a swift end. The sins of my past have finally caught up to me. My son, I am sorry. I looked at the woman who stood before me. Her request left me speechless. I'm trying to find a way around this. Some loophole? Alas no. She loves her son and will do anything to see him succeed. He will not take kindly to this venomous betrayal, but she is too blinded by her love to see. Perhaps this is just fate possessing her? Maybe my curse is clouding her judgement and forcing her to do this. It doesn't matter though. A demand has been made of me. I am honor-bound to carry this out. No matter how unjust it is. No matter if it will kill me. How long ago was it? It's as if I'm back in that forest from so long ago. I was young and strong. Those keen ears that could hear a deer sating its thirst from far away. From the sound alone I could determine the direction and distance of my target. I ...

Week 2 Story: The Demon Of The Forest

Image
A group of children from the village were exploring in a nearby forest. They had been talking of stories about mythical monsters and brave heroes. The children had not been out in the wilderness by themselves many times and did not have the knowledge of what lurks in the forest. As they were playing and pretending to cut down a mythical monster they found, an apple tree, they heard a strange noise in the distance. The children immediately stopped playing and gathered together. They looked through the maze of trees and bushes where the noise had originated from. One child by the name of Richard was the informal leader of this band of child explorers. He told them all to get behind him, so they did. Richard picked up a rock laying near him and threw it towards the noise. As the rock landed in the bushes, a loud and ferocious roar bellowed out. Richard, in his fear, exclaimed, "RUN, THE DEMON OF THE FOREST HAS COME TO KILL US!" All the children turned and ran away with rec...
